A book aiming to encourage ethically-minded science and engineering graduates to take up socially responsible careers is published today.
The booklet, published by Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR), contains 12 inspiring case histories of scientists and engineers who have prioritised ethical concerns during their careers.
"More students and graduates are becoming interested in ethical career options - but in the science and technology sectors there is limited information to guide them," said Dr Parkinson, co-editor of the book.
The 12 people featured in the booklet have covered a diverse range of career paths from engineering and physical sciences, through to life sciences and medicine, as well as social sciences.
The ethical issues which are encountered by the 12 case studies range from military and corporate involvement, environmental protection, social justice and animal welfare. Some of those featured have found the quest to pursue an ethical career quite straightforward, while others have struggled against powerful vested interests.
