Can I use the arts to help society?

I'm doing a degree in photography and fine art. What can I do that uses the arts to help society?

The arts are an important and enriching part of human society, challenging and influencing our perceptions. The visual arts can be used to express a political message, document the world around us, or to encourage others to express their creativity.

In reality, very few artists make a living purely by selling their work, but there are paid jobs for artists in areas such as film, publishing, digital media, education, conservation and community work. There are a number of organisations working in community arts and sustainable design.
